Four National Teachers in 2010
Ridgewood Needlepoint is delighted to be hosting four national teachers in 2010. The first two teachers, Carole Lake and David McCaskill, taught classes for the painted canvas enthusiast. This summer Tony Minieri's four-day class, "Back to Basics: Bad Habits Broken Here" will focus on improving your stitching technique. In October, Deborah Wilson will be teaching her Autumn Tussie Mussie.
Tony Minieri
Back to Basics The Right Way; Bad Habits Broken Here
This class is designed for the novice stitcher or experienced stitcher who is ready to bring his/her stitching to a new level. In this four session class (taught on four Summer Mondays), Tony explains how and why some techniques are better than others. I've been taking the class over a period of months; it's one of the best classes I've ever taken. In addition to learning new techniques, I've learned why to use certain techniques instead of others. I've also learned simple techniques that have improved the level of my stitching.
The class will run from 10 AM - 5 PM on these four days:
Monday, June 21
Monday, July 19
Sunday, August 22
Monday, August 23
Class Fee: $ 300
Deposit: $ 100 non-refundable deposit plus your credit card on file.
$ 50 will be collected at each class.
Space is limited so call or email us to reserve your place.
Participants are committing to all four sessions.
Deborah Wilson
Autumn Tussie Mussie
Deborah Wilson returns to Ridgewood Needlepoint on Sunday and Monday, October 17-18. Deborah will be teaching her Autumn Tussie Mussie, the second in a series of canvases based on the Victorian nosegay holder.
A blend of traditional needlepoint techniques, dimensional stitching and a touch of metal thread work make this project jump off the canvas! Using garnet beads to form blackberries and a variety of handpainted threads from Germany afford the stitcher a NEW experience. The Japanese maple leaves are constructed off the canvas and applied in a manner which allows their points to float "free" should the stitcher so desire. A silk roving hankie provides a base for the pods formed by real handpainted silkworm cocoons. Stitchers of all ability levels will find these innovative methods exciting and applicable to other projects.
Dates: Sunday & Monday, October 17-18
Times: 10 AM to 5 PM
Class Fee: $ 450 (Includes canvas, stitch guide, threads, evertites and class)
Deposit: $ 225 plus your credit card on file to hold your place.
Three National Teachers in 2011
Tony Minieri's Patterns of the Orient
Tony Minieri will be teaching this incredible piece during the first three months of 2011. This is a piece for advanced stitchers.
"Patterns of the Orient" is the first in a series of designs based on the fabrics of a particular area. In Patterns of the Orient, Tony was inspired by the fabrics of China, Japan and Korea.
The piece is stitched on 24ct. canvas, using an unbelievable selection of silk threads and stitched in some wonderful composite stitches including Bargello, flat chevron, vertical couching, overlapping lattice, cashmere, Gobelin and elongated Hungarian. You'll love stitching this phenomenal piece. The picture above shows the piece in Tony's original colors but there are several color choices.
This class needs 8 three hour sessions. In order to accommodate Tony's busy travel schedule and working women, the piece will be taught over a series of Monday evenings plus two all-day Sunday sessions. The dates and times are:
Monday, January 3: 6 PM - 9 PM ( Session 1)
Sunday, January 30: 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM (Session 2 & 3)
Monday, January 31: 6 PM - 9 PM (Session 4)
Sunday, February 27: 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM (Session 5 & 6)
Monday, February 28: 6 PM - 9 PM (Session 7)

The second section will meet from Monday, March 28-Wednesday, March 30. Class size is limited to 10 people so you need to let us know if you are interested. David McCaskill Three Days of Canvas Embellishment in May 2011 (David Changing a Canvas) David McCaskill returns to Ridgewood Needlepoint from Saturday, May 21 through Monday, May 23, 2011. It's so exciting to have him back -- I always learn so much from him. David is a nationally recognized needlepoint teacher and designer; he teaches canvas embellishment throughout the United States.
David is doing three canvas embellishment classes. You can sign up for a single day, two days or all three. These classes are for the painted canvas enthusiast who wants advice on selecting threads and stitches for a special canvas. David works with each student individually, making recommendations based on the student's ability and preferences. David's stitch recommendations are inspired; what he does with threads is beyond the manufacturer's imagination. During the first hour, David gives each participant a stitch to work on. Then, throughout the day, he meets with each stitcher individually to suggest threads and stitches. Of course, you can always listen to his suggestions for the other canvases! During the class, David meets with each participant three or four times. At each session, he suggests threads and stitches to work on. He will also get your feedback on previous stitches.Call (201-612-7770) or email us to let us know you are interested in taking the class. Class size is limited. We will require a 50% deposit plus your credit card on file by April 1, 2011. (If you are enrolled in multiple classes, you can bring the same canvas or a different one each day.) Class Fee: $ 150 for Canvases bought at Ridgewood Needlepoint.
