Four National Teachers in 2010; Three in 2011
Ridgewood Needlepoint is delighted to have had four national teachers scheduled in 2010. . The first two teachers, Carole Lake and David McCaskill, taught classes for the for the painted canvas enthusiast. Tony Minieri's four day class "Back to Basics: Bad Habits Broken Here" was focused on how and why to follow certain stitching techniques. In October, Deborah Wilson will be teaching her Autumn Tussie Mussie.
In 2011, we have already scheduled three national teachers. First, Tony Minieri will be teaching his fabulous "Patterns of the Orient" during the first three months of 2011. Carole Lake will be returning in March 2011 to teach her wonderful St. Basil's. (The response has been so great that she will be teaching it in two sections so that we can accomodate more of you.) And David McCaskill returns in May 2011 for three days of Canvas Embellishment.
Deborah Wilson
Autumn Tussie Mussie
Deborah Wilson returns to Ridgewood Needlepoint on Sunday and Saturday, October 17-18. Deborah will be teaching her Autumn Tussie Mussie, the second in a series of canvases based on the Victorian nosegay holder.

A blend of traditional needlepoint techniques, dimensional stitching and a touch of metal thread work make this project jump off the canvas! Using garnet beads to form blackberries and a variety of handpainted threads from Germany afford the stitcher a NEW experience. The Japanese maple leaves are constructed off the canvas and applied in a manner which allows their points to float "free" should the stitcher so desire. A silk roving hankie provides a base for the pods formed by real handpainted silkworm cocoons. Stitchers of all ability levels will find these innovative methods exciting and applicable to other projects.
Dates: Sunday & Monday, October 17-18
Times: 10 AM to 5 PM
Class Fee: $ 450 (Includes canvas, stitch guide, threads, evertites and class)
Deposit: $ 225 plus your credit card on file to hold your place.
Ridgewood Needlepoint - Beginner's Class
Our popular Beginner's Class is perfect for the novice stitcher and the stitcher who has not gone beyond the basic stitch. Eileen is teaching this three session class. One recent participant wrote:
"I loved the first class! Even though I have 'continentalled' for almost 40 years on and off, your class taught me SO much. I am loving the magnets and the quilting knot, not to mention how to use the knot. And learning how to work from top and bottom was a revelation. Of course, the new stitches were my reason to take the class, but they have become just one of many highlights."
Participants receive a line-drawn canvas for the sampler above with your initial, threads, stretcher bars and the three classes. (The design area is 6" by 6" and is drawn on #14 mesh canvas.) We need a minimum of 4 participants for a section to be held.
Currently, we are enrolling participants for the following sections:

Monday Mornings from 10:30 AM to 12;30 PM

Tuesday Evenings from 7 PM to 9 PM

David McCaskill
Three Days of Canvas Embellishment in May 2011
David McCaskill returns to Ridgewood Needlepoint from Saturday, May 21 through Monday, May 23, 2011. It's so exciting to have him back -- I always learn so much from him. David is a nationally recognized needlepoint teacher and designer; he teaches canvas embellishment throughout the United States.
David is doing three canvas embellishment classes. You can sign up for a single day, two days or all three. These classes are for the painted canvas enthusiast who wants advice on selecting threads and stitches for a special canvas. David works with each student individually, making recommendations based on the student's ability and preferences. David's stitch recommendations are inspired; what he does with threads is beyond the manufacturer's imagination.
During the first hour, David gives each participant a stitch to work on. Then, throughout the day, he meets with each stitcher individually to suggest threads and stitches. Of course, you can always listen to his suggestions for the other canvases!
During the class, David meets with each participant three or four times. At each session, he suggests threads and stitches to work on. He will also get your feedback on previous stitches.
Call (201-612-7770) or email us to let us know that you are interested. Class size is limited. We will require a 50% deposit on April 1, 2011 plus your credit card on file.
(If you are enrolled in two or more days, you can bring the same canvas or a different one each day.)
Class fee is $ 150 for canvases bought at Ridgewood Needlepoint.
